I am proud to announce that CeCe Heil, Senior Counsel and International Legal Director for the ACLJ, has been appointed as a Commissioner to the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), a bipartisan commission tasked with monitoring and reporting on violations of religious freedom worldwide. Her appointment recognizes years of advocacy in some of the world’s most challenging religious freedom cases. CeCe will continue to serve in her role at the ACLJ while she fulfills her duties as a USCIRF Commissioner.
USCIRF was created by the 1998 International Religious Freedom Act (IRFA), as amended. The commission is composed of nine commissioners appointed by the President or congressional leaders. It is a bipartisan federal body that monitors religious freedom worldwide and issues policy recommendations to key government officials.
CeCe has been at the forefront of advocating for religious freedom for persecuted Christians worldwide. As Senior Counsel and International Legal Director, she has led efforts to address threats to religious liberty and advocate on behalf of the persecuted. Throughout her career at the ACLJ, CeCe has worked directly on cases involving imprisoned pastors, discriminatory blasphemy laws, and attacks on Christian communities overseas.
Her work reflects the ACLJ’s mission to defend human rights, both domestically and internationally, particularly the fundamental right to freedom of religion or belief.
As a USCIRF Commissioner, CeCe will continue to defend persecuted Christians around the world. Her legal background and experience in international advocacy will be a meaningful asset to the USCIRF’s mission to promote religious freedom or belief.
The ACLJ celebrates her appointment as a recognition of years of dedicated service in defense of religious freedom across the globe.
