Radio Recap: BREAKING: Jay Sekulow Reacts to Special Counsel’s First and Final Statement on Report

Today on the show, my dad Jay Sekulow, who represents the President in his private capacity, joined us to discuss the press conference held by the Special Counsel this morning where the Special Counsel gave his official, and likely last, statement on the report regarding his findings.

As Jay said, the Special Counsel didn’t say anything new today.

The Special Counsel stated:

“Two years ago, the Acting Attorney General asked me to serve as Special Counsel, and he created the Special Counsel’s Office. The appointment order directed the office to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. This included investigating any links or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the Trump campaign. Now I have not spoken publicly during our investigation. I’m speaking out today because our investigation is complete. The Attorney General has made the report on our investigation largely public.”

Mueller confirmed the investigation is complete. His office is closing, and he’s returning to private life. He also made it clear he has no intention of appearing before Congress, as anything he would testify about is already in the report.

“Now I hope and expect this to be the only time that I will speak to you in this manner. I am making that decision myself. No one has told me whether I can or should testify or speak further about this matter. There has been discussion about an appearance before Congress. Any testimony from this office would not go beyond our report. It contains our findings and analysis and the reasons for the decisions we made. We chose those words carefully and the work speaks for itself. And the report is my testimony. I would not provide information beyond that which is already public in any appearance before congress.”

My dad and I discussed that there was nothing of substance in the Special Counsel’s statements today that isn’t already in the report. As we’ve said many times, a special counsel’s job is not to exonerate. It is to determine whether there is evidence that a case can be brought or not.

Legally, the case is closed. My dad reiterated the findings of the report that there was no collusion – or conspiracy to use the legal word. And based on the report, the Department of Justice found that there was no obstruction. That’s it. The legal case is over.

This report has been so hyped up over the last two years, as Mueller was made out to be some kind of liberal hero; and now that the truth is out, it has deflated the Left. The outcome remains the same. The case is closed.

We also discussed the 2020 election and huge field of Contenders looking to take on President Trump. The Democrats’ first debate is less than one month away. Who will appear on the debate stage? We detailed how candidates qualify for the date, something that is quite complicated based on polling and fundraising averages.

While Joe Biden seems to be leading the field right now, we wondered who might have the strength and fundraising capabilities to win the nomination. Will it be Bernie Sanders or Kamala Harris, or will wild cards like Beto O’Rourke or Pete Buttigieg make a surprise showing?
