The American Center for Law and Justice will represent families, just like yours, for free.

On today’s Jay Sekulow Live, we discussed the work that we at the ACLJ are doing. As we all face this pandemic, we will represent families for free to ensure that children have educational opportunities.

You might have seen some of my interview on Fox News this past Sunday on Steve Hilton’s show The Next Revolution. We talked about these school closures and what parents can do who need financial assistance so that their children who might be at home now can do virtual learning if possible. What happens if they don’t have internet connectivity? What about the meals that are provided? What if they don’t have a car to go pick up those meals, even if that’s how the school is doing it?

What if schools close again this year? You think about all the different things that people rely on and we pay for through our tax dollars so that people have access to those things, including those that are in the toughest neighborhoods and economic situations. Who is going to take care of the children who are at home when they have two working parents or a single parent who has to work, when they don’t have school that they can usually rely on for nine months or more often from eight in the morning and until as late as 5pm?

My dad, Jay Sekulow, made the following point:

Let me tell you what we’re not talking about. We’re not talking about filing lawsuits to force local school districts to open. That we’re not getting into. That’s a political that they make as the school, the elected school board, but what we’re talking about is a civil rights issue.

I don’t have to worry about whether I have internet connectivity or whether my grandkids are getting fed or whether their books and resources are going to be available to them. We have the means to do that. A lot of people do not, and we’re going to get into that. We’ve already received requests from eighteen states where we will start dialogues. This isn’t threats of litigation. Now, some things can end up in litigation, but these aren’t threats of litigation. How is the school district going to accommodate parents and the children, particularly to help the children under a changing medical situation with the coronavirus? I think we have to be thinking out of the box. We’re having to think out of the box as lawyers, but I also think school districts need to be thinking out of the box as well.
