Radio Recap: Special Counsel Refutes BuzzFeed Report

Last week the mainstream media was whipped into a feeding frenzy over an article from media outlet BuzzFeed that claimed President Trump instructed his former attorney, Michael Cohen, to lie to Congress.

Other mainstream media outlets breathlessly repeated the report without bothering to verify it. It was essentially unquestioned. That is, until in an unprecedented move Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s office released a statement that the BuzzFeed story is “not accurate.”

Today on the broadcast, we discussed the Special Counsel’s unprecedented move to publicly refute the story and the lack of media accountability.

According to the Special Counsel’s statement:

“BuzzFeed’s description of specific statements to the Special Counsel’s Office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen’s Congressional testimony are not accurate,” Peter Carr, a spokesman for Mueller’s office, said.

Sadly, heavily-biased Democrats in Congress, even after being told by the Special Counsel’s office that the BuzzFeed story is not accurate, are still using it as justification to start a brand new investigation, using terms like “if it’s true” and “it raises questions.”

The Special Counsel just said it’s not true, and therefore any questions is supposedly raises shouldn’t be considered valid. But the facts don’t seem to give pause to those throwing around the word “impeachment” on the basis of this bogus report.

Let’s take a moment to unpack this statement.  The Special Counsel’s office focuses on three areas:  1) “BuzzFeed’s description of specific statements to the Special Counsel’s Office”; 2) “and characterizations of documents”; 3) “and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen’s Congressional testimony are not accurate.”

That’s three critical areas that ARE NOT ACCURATE.  The description of specific statements – the characterization of documents – and testimony obtained by the Special Counsel’s office – ARE NOT ACCURATE. That’s according to the Office of Special Counsel – the entity that actually heads up the investigation.

We also recognized today as Martin Luther King Jr. Day, paying tribute to Dr. King’s work as a pioneer for civil rights, including his support for the State of Israel.

Dr. King publicly stated that “the whole world must see that Israel must exist and has the right to exist, and is one of the great outposts of democracy in the world.”
