Tensions are rising in the U.S.-China relationship.

Today on Sekulow, we discussed the rising tensions between the United States and China. The United States has leveled new sanctions against Chinese government officials.

Last week China blasted the United States and tried to make a moral equivalency between their internal actions and the internal actions in the United States:

China is firmly opposed to U.S. interference in China's internal affairs. We have expressed our staunch opposition to such interference, and we will take firm actions in response. On human rights, we hope that the United States will do better on human rights. China has made steady progress in human rights, and the fact is that there are many problems within the United States regarding human rights, which is admitted by the U.S. itself as well.

ACLJ Senior Advisor for National Security and Foreign Policy Ric Grenell joined us on the broadcast and discussed the audacity of the Chinese attempt at moral equivalency:

Everybody realizes around the world that there is no moral equivalency between what we do and what China does. We have problems, there’s no question and no one should minimize those problems. But, to somehow suggest our imperfection is on the same level as what China does by denying basic human rights to people is atrocious. I have to say, this is what the Democrats have done for four years. They should not be surprised when they have messaged for political gain inside the United States that we are a racist, sexist, homophobe country that we should be ashamed of that dramatically has to be changed. California Governor Gavin Newsom recently said we cannot go back to normal after COVID-19 because normal was unequal. The idea that we have a society that’s created inequality on purpose, or systemically, is an outrage. So you get things like when you go to the U.N., the Chinese then pick up the Democrat talking points.

They are making the moral equivalency argument because the Democrats have allowed that to happen.

The United States may have its problems, but Ric Grenell is right. China’s attempt at moral equivalency is outrageous.
