President Trump’s Biggest Trade War Win
Listen tothis article
President Donald Trump announced a “full and comprehensive” trade deal with the United Kingdom. How will the biggest trade deal yet with the U.K. impact other international trade deals with America?
President Trump shared on his Truth Social account:
The agreement with the United Kingdom is a full and comprehensive one that will cement the relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom for many years to come. Because of our long time history and allegiance together, it is a great honor to have the United Kingdom as our FIRST announcement. Many other deals, which are in serious stages of negotiation, to follow!
If you remember, Trump shared that a big announcement was coming later this week, and he delivered as promised. The trade agreement with the U.K. is probably one of the biggest successes of the Trump White House so far. The deal comes on the heels of all the chaos surrounding Liberation Day, when all the tariffs were implemented nationwide.
As we said yesterday, we expect a trade deal to be imminent with India, based on the friendly meetings between the Trump Administration and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. And Trump officials will be meeting with China this weekend in Switzerland to discuss a trade deal.
For now, we have a framework for the deal with the U.K. For example, the agriculture sector and the automotive industry will benefit greatly. Most importantly, this deal provides a road map to other nations (e.g., South Korea, Japan, India, etc.) that are currently negotiating with the U.S.
ACLJ Senior Counsel and Director of Policy Harry Hutchison explained further:
As the U.S. puts together a road map for future deals, this will settle the economic markets. It will settle the financial markets. I also think this is an opportunity for Donald Trump to deliver once again, without driving up prices in the U.S. So, essentially, the U.K. will reduce non-tariff trade barriers on U.S. exports, including agricultural products, automobile products, and aircraft engines. The agreement will allow American products to be fast-tracked through the customs process in Great Britain. I think the only sticking point that I see going forward is the fact that . . . agricultural products will have to comply with U.K. food standards.
Removing red tape for American products to enter the U.K. market is huge. The previous regulations often created headaches for processing goods, and the new agreement should remedy those issues.
Yesterday the Federal Reserve and Chairman Jerome Powell chose not to lower interest rates because of trade uncertainty, despite Trump’s calls for lower rates. Even though Powell didn’t budge, interest rates should come down in the U.S. as a result of the successful trade agreements. Case in point, regardless of Powell’s inaction, mortgage rates are falling in the U.S.
My brother, ACLJ Executive Director Jordan Sekulow, joined the show to update us on our critical legal fight today in Massachusetts. Roughly a year ago, we filed a lawsuit to stop the government of Massachusetts from partnering with the abortion lobby to smear pro-life centers and pressure more women into getting abortions. The state is literally using taxpayer dollars to advertise for abortions and against pro-life centers.
And now the opposition is trying to have our lawsuit thrown out. Even if we don’t win today, we have other legal avenues, including appealing all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.
We will never stop fighting because this case is pivotal in preventing future states from using taxpayer dollars to launch smear campaigns against pro-life centers. Join us in defending the lifesaving work of pro-life centers by signing our petition.
Toward the end of our broadcast, we heard from our legal team in Massachusetts after it wrapped up the two-hour hearing. Just so you know, in a Motion to Dismiss hearing, a judge can dismiss a case immediately, which did not happen today.
Our lawyers reported that the judge was fair, the questioning was solid, and the judge won’t be ruling from the bench. We will keep you updated on the result of today’s hearing when we find out.
Today’s Sekulow broadcast included a full analysis of the biggest trade victory of the Trump Administration thus far.
