New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is in hot water.

Today on Sekulow, we discussed breaking news regarding NY Governor Andrew Cuomo’s nursing home scandal. The FBI and U.S. Attorney have opened an investigation into the handling of the nursing homes and COVID-19.

Gov. Cuomo’s mishandling of COVID-19 nursing home deaths has been talked about for months and months. Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has done a great job highlighting this in the media, unrelenting on Gov. Cuomo.

Democrats are now finally starting to question whether or not he is fit to serve as governor in the wake of this scandal. In recent weeks the administration revealed that it was over 15,000 people in nursing homes that died of COVID-19, up from 8,500 – almost double what was previously disclosed.

President Trump appeared on several news shows yesterday discussing the tragic passing of Rush Limbaugh, and was asked about the COVID-19 situation and Gov. Cuomo. President Trump stated there was no excuse to send COVID-19 positive patients into nursing homes when the federal government provided New York with the U.S.S. Comfort and converted the Jacob Javits Center into a hospital. Yet those emergency facilities were empty.

Why weren’t those thousands of people sent to there instead of nursing homes, which might have spared countless innocent lives? Curiously, the mainstream media isn’t asking President Biden about it.

Governor Cuomo has a lot to answer for here. I know some people are justifiably leery of FBI investigations right now, but the U.S. Attorney in New York is looking into it as well. They are specifically looking for evidence of criminal wrongdoing.

ACLJ Director of Government Affairs Thann Bennett gave his take on Governor Cuomo’s mishandling if this situation:

It is pretty clear to me that there was a whole lot of focus on press conferences and pursuing awards, rather than actual action. There were ample options for Governor Cuomo to do something more responsible with those who were falling sick, especially in the early days of this pandemic. We didn’t know a whole lot about the disease but we did know at that point that it was more lethal for the elderly population. We also knew that separation from the general population was a very important thing and yet Governor Cuomo did not take advantage of the options that the federal government gave him. It sure looks to me like, and I don’t know how else you can describe this other than, a falsification of evidence.

We also discussed the South Carolina Fetal Heartbeat bill that has passed their legislature. The Governor of South Carolina is expected to sign it.
