As the Special Counsel appears on Capitol Hill, the big question is: Has he even read his own report?
On today’s show we discussed Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s testimony before Congress this morning.
Mueller had no idea what was in his own report. It’s no wonder yesterday he demanded to have his deputy at his side, just so someone could point out the pages in the report, since he was obviously unfamiliar with its content.
His testimony was rife with inaccuracies. When questioned by Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA), Mueller said collusion and conspiracy are not synonymous. And yet page 180 of his own report says “collusion is largely synonymous with conspiracy.”
When asked if he was contradicting his report, Mueller’s answer was “Not when I read it.” It’s cringe-worthy.
As Thann Bennett pointed out, at one point Mueller acted like he was unfamiliar with the firm Fusion GPS, which played a major role in the Russia investigation. It doesn’t even make sense.
Early on the show, I called this a disaster for Bob Mueller, and even Fox News anchor Chris Wallace, who has been a vocal critic of the President, summed up the proceedings the same way:
"I think this has been a disaster for the Democrats and I think it's been a disaster for the reputation of Robert Mueller. He has seemed very uncertain with his brief. He doesn't seem to know things that are in the report."
The next question for Mueller would be why was this report even written in the first place, especially if you’d already come to the conclusion that no charges could be brought against the President?
Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-TX) asked a pointed question that essentially pointed out that President Trump has not been treated fairly throughout this investigation.
“Can you give me an example other than Donald Trump where the Justice Department determined that an investigated person was not exonerated because their innocence was not conclusively determined?”
Mueller responded: “I cannot, but this is a unique situation.”
No sir, this is not a unique situation. That is not the standard of law. You are not the judge or jury. You either bring charges or you don’t. Mueller’s testimony today made it clear this whole ordeal has been a political witch hunt.
My dad, Jay Sekulow, who represents President Trump in his private capacity, released a statement this morning, following Mueller’s testimony:
“This morning’s testimony exposed the troubling deficiencies of the special counsel’s investigation. The testimony revealed that this probe was conducted by a small group of politically biased prosecutors who, as hard as they tried, were unable to establish either obstruction, conspiracy or collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. It’s also clear that the special counsel conducted his two-year investigation unimpeded.”
As my dad reiterated his statement said when he called in from D.C. and said, simply: “This is case closed.”
