It’s what we feared. Whistleblowers within the Department of Justice have reportedly confirmed that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is indeed investigating parents’ rhetoric and behavior at school board meetings as potential terrorists.

Attorney General Merrick Garland denied this in testimony before the Judiciary Committee:

I can’t imagine any circumstance in which the Patriot Act would be used in the circumstances of parents complaining about their children, nor can I imagine a circumstance where they would be labeled as domestic terrorists. Parents have been complaining about the education of their children and about school boards since there were such things as school boards and public education. This is totally protected by the First Amendment.

So, did Garland lie under oath? Did he not know it was still going on? Congress is demanding answers. Representatives Jim Jordan (OH-4) and Mike Johnson (LA-4) sent a letter to the Attorney General calling him out based on what the whistleblower reports revealed:

We now have evidence that, contrary to your testimony, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has labeled at least dozens of investigations into parents with a threat tag created by the FBI’s Counterterrorism Division to assess and track investigations related to school boards.

Congressman Johnson joined Sekulow to offer his direct insight:

This is a big deal. We have been investigating this for some time. Our Republicans on the Judiciary Committee, we have jurisdiction over the Department of Justice and all of its agencies and divisions. We have been investigating the Biden Administration’s misuse of law enforcement resources, and part of that has been to target concerned parents. They have been doing this since last fall.

Remember all the angry mama bears and all the dads. They were going to the school board meetings. They were protesting. They were letting their voices be heard. They were exercising the First Amendment. They were letting these school boards at the local level know, they were not on board with the CRT nonsense, and they didn’t like the mask mandates and all that. . . .

Here is the problem, the Department of Justice and the FBI targeted those parents and considered them a threat. Now, here’s the deal, when Merrick Garland came in front of our committee in October, we asked him under oath right in front of the Judiciary Committee whether that was true or not. He said that those parents have never been targeted. Now we have a whistleblower who confirms our worst fears.

ACLJ Director of Policy Harry Hutchison explained how this is a trend with the Biden Administration in his new article and further explained the President’s motive behind all of this:

It is going toward a massive, deliberate, and intentional campaign of intimidation. It is designed to intimidate the American people into submission and subordination. If you look at Nina Jankowicz, she wants to control the freedom of speech. If you look at President Biden, he wants to control the activities and the political thoughts of people who perhaps support the idea of making America great.

This pattern by the Biden Administration is deeply troubling when it comes to the trust of the American people. ACLJ Senior Counsel for Global Affairs and former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Mike Pompeo summed up how we have to get to the bottom of this:

It is absolutely deeply troubling. It’s worse than that. This is using the full power of the United States government, the investigative power, the capacity to go out and intimidate by showing up at the door and threatening people who are just out there trying to take care of their kids. . . . For the life of me I cannot figure out . . . why this Administration is so focused on this, with all of the challenges we have. . . . I cannot figure out a good motive for why it is the case they are so stuck on – investigating parents.

It is . . . deeply inconsistent with both what the Attorney General said and the basic tenets of American privacy and freedom. I am confident that the ACLJ will keep at this, chasing documents as to why the Attorney General didn’t know what is going on, or worse, he did and didn’t tell the American people the truth. I am confident you all will be an important part of rectifying what appears to be a truly abhorrent policy from this Administration.

We will be demanding answers into the FBI’s investigation of concerned parents based on rhetoric at school board meetings. We’ve fought at the school board level since the very beginning of the ACLJ, and we will continue so that these parents have a say in their children’s education and not be intimidated by the Biden Administration’s abuse of power.
