Danger and Death on the Border While Biden Administration Stands By

All of us are familiar with the numerous videos in recent years of innocent people being attacked while bystanders merely watch and do nothing.  Some pull out their cell phone and film a person being attacked in a subway or on a street corner.  We are all shocked and do not understand why people watching a violent act don’t intervene—or at least call the police.

A similar thing is happening on our southern border.  Innocent people are dying.  This year almost 900 immigrants have died attempting to cross illegally into the United States.  Many have drowned.  But others have been killed by drug cartels, who now literally control who illegally crosses into the U.S., how many cross, and when.  The drug cartels charge unbelievable amounts of money.  Often, they coerce a migrant into acting as a mule to smuggle drugs into the country.  It may be our border, but the drug cartels have operational control of it.

When anyone crosses the cartels or refuses to cooperate, they are killed.  Young women and girls face sexual violence from cartel members and other illegal immigrants. Frequently Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents and U.S. National Guard members are fired upon by the cartels on the opposite side of the river.  Some have been killed. The list of atrocities goes on and on.

Meanwhile, over 100,000 Americans die each year from the fentanyl that the cartels import into our country, using those crossing the border to transport the drugs.  The ingredients for this drug are shipped into Mexico from China.  The cartels manufacture the finished product and push it into the U.S.  The end results for Americans are alarming and deadly.

While all of this is happening, the Biden Administration does nothing to stop it.  Actually, the lax policies and the refusal of the Administration to enforce existing immigration laws exacerbate the problem.  The open-border policies of the Biden team act as a magnet that encourages people from Central and South America to take the perilous actions.  They know—because it is a fact—that if they can simply get over the border and into the U.S., most of them will be allowed to stay. They will be given cell phones, new shoes, and free transportation to other locations in the U.S.  Thus, it is chaos at the border.  Border agents are overwhelmed and not allowed to do their job by the Department of Homeland Security and Secretary Mayorkas—who continues to insist that the border is secure.

The Biden Administration refuses to complete the border barriers that have been shown to be effective at decreasing illegal activity at the border. The Biden White House is adding 87,000 new IRS agents.  However, they are now taking air marshals off of our airplanes and sending them to the border to help with the understaffed border patrol.  Title 42 is ending, and the situation is about to get worse, as unbelievable as that seems.  While approximately 6,000 to 8,000 people are apprehended daily crossing illegally, immigration experts predict that this number will increase to 18,000 daily apprehensions when Title 42 goes away.

This does not include the “got aways,” those who cross and are not caught – 599,000 in the  fiscal year which just ended.  This number was 389,155 in the previous year and only 60,000 in 2020, as President Trump’s term in office was ending.

Alarmingly, the number of people on the terrorism watchlist who have crossed during Biden’s time as President was 98 until last month.  In October 2022, another 40 suspected terrorists were caught by CBP trying to cross the border—in one month! However, there is no way to know how many terrorists are in the 600,000-plus got aways who have escaped into the U.S. in the last 13 months.  In October alone, there were 64,000 got aways.

Consider this: So far, border agents have caught 138 suspected terrorists crossing the border since Joe Biden became President.  From 2017 to 2020, there were a total of 26 people apprehended who were on that list.  Again, we do not know how many people on the terrorism watchlist have crossed the border without detection under this Administration. This is a true national security threat.  It puts you and every American in danger.  Is Biden’s Administration concerned at all?

The Biden Administration is essentially doing nothing to address what is going on.  Neither the President nor Vice President Harris (the supposed border czar) have even visited the border.  Border agents are overworked, underpaid, and overwhelmed.  So far this year 11 border patrol agents have committed suicide, 3 in the last two weeks. If for no other reason than that, Biden or Harris should visit the border and offer support.

America, we have a problem.  People are dying.  The border is not secure and the ramifications of that are far-reaching.  Local communities are overwhelmed.  Presently we cannot track suspected terrorists who cross the border because we do not know who they are—or where they are.  Strong and purposeful action is needed.  That action should begin by simply acknowledging that we have a problem.  But even that is not happening.  Biden and his Administration are bystanders, merely watching and doing nothing.
