The anti-Israel U.N. is at it again, siding with Palestinian demands, undermining the U.S., and undercutting the peace process in the Middle East.

Despite its continued violent attacks and threats against our ally Israel, the United Nations just voted to further empower the terrorist-funding Palestinian Authority’s quest for illegitimate power.

In another move unlikely to endear the Trump administration to the United Nations, the General Assembly has endorsed, by an overwhelming margin, an “enabling” resolution giving the Palestinian observer mission powers of a member-state, albeit for a limited amount of time.

The Egypt-sponsored resolution, designed to facilitate the Palestinian mission’s presidency next year of the biggest bloc of developing nations at the U.N. – the G77 and China – passed on Tuesday with 146 votes to three, with 15 countries abstaining.

It gives the “state of Palestine,” acting on behalf of the G77 and China, the right to introduce and make statements, submit and co-sponsor proposals and amendments, and raise procedural motions, among others.

The “no” votes came from the United States – which urged all delegations to oppose the measure – joined by Israel and Australia.

This dubious move by the U.N. gives the Palestine Authority power over things it has no rights or claim to, and will help it further its anti-Israel agenda within the international community.

Outgoing U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley released an official statement in response to the resolution, reiterating the U.S. non-recognition of Palestinian statehood, and its ineligibility to be admitted as a U.N. member-state.

Today, the United States voted against a UN General Assembly resolution granting the Palestinians privileges at the United Nations as chair of the “Group of 77” – a coalition of developing Member States at the UN. The United States does not recognize a Palestinian state, notes that‎ no such state has been admitted as a UN Member State, and does not believe that the Palestinians are eligible to be admitted as a UN Member State. The U.S. strongly opposes the Palestinian election as Chair of the G77, as well as the so-called enabling resolution in the UN General Assembly.

“The Palestinians are not a UN Member State or any state at all. The United States will continually point that out in our remarks at UN events led by the Palestinians. Today’s UN mistake undermines the prospects for peace by encouraging the illusion held by some Palestinian leaders that they can advance their goals without direct peace negotiations. In fact, today’s vote does nothing to help the Palestinian people,” said Ambassador Haley.

We’ve told you how the U.N. continues to attack Israel, despite a history of violent attacks against Israel by Palestinian terrorists. The U.N. turns a blind eye to the shameful, unprovoked violence committed by Palestinian Authority-paid terrorist but continues to single out only Israel and falsely accuse it of human rights violations.

The U.N. even created a slush fund with as much as $65 MILLION DOLLARS to support the Palestinian Authority (PA) – an organization that continues to incite and pay terrorists – to wage lawfare against Israel.

This supposedly neutral international body has once again chosen to falsely accuse the only truly democratic nation in the Middle East and empower a non-existent state that financially supports those who fire rockets at Israel and put innocent children in mortal danger.

The U.N. continues to show its anti-Semitic colors. The international community must stop empowering and endorsing any group that uses terror and violence against a recognized member state. The ACLJ will continue to monitor the situation and will fervently defend our ally Israel.
