Israel is under attack. Israeli civilians are currently in bomb shelters seeking safety.

Today was supposed to be a day of celebration for Jerusalem Day, a day when Israel reclaimed Jerusalem during the 1967 Six Day War. Citizens went to the streets to wave Israeli flags and participate in a parade to celebrate this day. Instead of a celebration, there has been an eruption of violence. Palestinian terrorist groups led by Hamas launched dozens of rockets and explosive and incendiary balloons into Jerusalem.

Meanwhile, the Biden Administration is calling for de-escalation – by Israel.

ACLJ Director of Policy Harry Hutchison said it best:

Why does the Biden Administration call for de-escalation? We have had virtual peace in the Middle East for a number of years. Why? Because there was a new sheriff in town. Unfortunately, today, we have a new social worker in office. So, the American people need to provide adult supervision for the juveniles in the White House.

Hamas said in a press release that it launched rockets into Israel in retaliation for “crimes and aggression” in the Palestinian east Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah and at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam. Hamas launched the rockets after calling for Israel to remove security from the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

This rocket fire was only four and a half miles away from the ACLJ’s office in Jerusalem. The Director of our Jerusalem office Rami Levy gave his firsthand analysis:

Well, I believe the reason is a new sheriff is in town, unfortunately. The old sheriff Donald Trump was super strong and sent the right message to Hamas, Iran, and the region. What is happening here is Hamas smelling weakness on the side of the U.S. Actually, the rockets fell only four and a half miles left of our ACLJ office in Jerusalem, which is a very high escalation. Together with you and Jordan and the ACLJ team, we constantly visited the Gaza border, and were actually under a Hamas attack, but here we are talking about shooting at Jerusalem and this is a major escalation and Israel will hit very hard to retaliate.

ACLJ’s Senior Counsel in the Jerusalem office David Benjamin explained on how he expects this situation to escalate:

So far, Israel has already struck a number of targets in Gaza. [Hamas] has to know very well that there is no way they can get away with shooting into Israel and not expect any response. I think the response so far has been relatively muted. Although I do understand that three Palestinians have been killed by Israel's response, I would guess that will invoke a response back by Hamas and an escalation here which we don’t know where that’ll go to. Again, Israel has a strong policy of responding. You’ll never get a situation where Israel will not respond to these attacks. Of course, there is an interest to calm it down if possible, but I don’t know where that is going right now.

The Biden Administration, by its actions and policies, has encouraged this violence. We have filed a lawsuit against the State Department over the renewed funding to the Palestinian Authority, even as it continues the Pay to Slay program that funds coldblooded terrorists and violates federal law. As we told you, the Biden Administration has stated they intend to distribute hundreds of millions in taxpayer aid to the Palestinian Authority, even though they are tied to the very terrorist group that fired rockets today – Hamas. We will continue our critical work in our Jerusalem office and file lawsuits against the Biden Administration over their role in these attacks on our ally Israel.
