In another historic move by the Trump Administration, the United States continues to build it’s “maximum pressure” campaign against the Iranian regime by announcing the official designation of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization.

On today’s broadcast, we discussed President Trump and Secretary of State Pompeo announcing the United States’ official designation of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) – a powerful division of the Iranian government – as a terrorist organization.

Secretary Pompeo made the announcement at a press briefing just this morning:

“For 40 years, the Islamic republic’s Revolutionary Guard Corps has actively engaged in terrorism, and created, supported, and directed other terrorist groups. The IRGC masquerades as a legitimate military organization, but none of us should be fooled . . . Our designation makes clear to the world that the IRGC not just supports other terrorist groups but engages in terrorism itself.”

Iran is the number one state sponsor of terrorism around the world. The IRGC plays a heavy role in ruling Iran. It controls roughly 20% of the Iranian economy. The IRGC controls Iran’s nuclear program, as well as its missile program. It also directs known-terrorist group Hezbollah.

And according to a new State Department report, Iran is responsible for the deaths of over 600 U.S. servicemen and women.

As President Trump himself said:

“It underscores the fact that Iran’s actions are fundamentally different from those of other governments . . . . The IRGC is the Iranian government’s primary means of directing and implementing its global terrorist campaign”

This unprecedented step is the first time a U.S. President has designated a division of a foreign government as terrorist organization. This is a message to the world. If you deal with terrorists, you cannot deal with the United States.

As President Trump also added:

"It makes crystal clear the risks of conducting business with, or providing support to, the IRGC. If you are doing business with the IRGC, you will be bankrolling terrorism."
