While U.S. Brokers Peace Between Israel and Middle Eastern Nations, a U.N. Director Prepares To Speak at Antisemitic, Anti-Israel BDS Rally

While the U.S. helps usher in a new era of peace between Israel and other Middle Eastern nations, venomous antisemitism permeates the United Nations, and deadly terrorist rockets are fired at Israel.

Now, a U.N. representative is reportedly slated to speak at an event for the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement. We’ve told you before how the BDS movement is nothing more than a sustained effort to impose economic costs and reputational injury on Israel as part of a calculated campaign to delegitimize the Jewish State’s right to exist. A U.N. official addressing a BDS event could be interpreted as a direct insult, if not an outright attack, on Israel – a U.N. member state.

And yet as reported:

Laila Mokhiber, communications director for the U.N. Relief and Works Agency’s (UNRWA) U.S. office, is slated to appear Monday at an event sponsored by one of the foremost promoters of the [Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions] movement, which wages economic warfare on Israel.

The UNRWA official’s participation in the event is generating concerns about the U.N. agency, which saw its funding cut by the Trump administration as a result of anti-Israel controversies. Her attendance is evidence the group has made no effort to reform.

The UNRWA indeed has a dubious past when it comes to its relationship with the terrorist-affiliated Palestinian Authority (PA). We’ve told you how the UNRWA used funds it received from the U.S. to subsidize the PA and fund its “pay for slay” program which rewards families of terrorists who murder Americans and Israelis. It’s unthinkable that a U.N. agency would essentially subsidize bounties on the heads of Americans and Israelis, let alone use American tax dollars to do it, but that’s what happened.

President Trump cut funding to the PA to the tune of about $200 million to halt its rewarding the families of terrorists. Presidential candidate Joe Biden has promised to restore funding to the PA and UNRWA, despite the likelihood of where that money will ultimately wind up and how many more American and Israeli deaths it will cause.

And, interestingly, this BDS event is taking place in Washington, D.C., just days after the historic Abraham Accords were signed between Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain at the White House. After decades of animosity between these nations and travel bans against Israelis, they have agreed to normalize relations and even begin to do business together.

As we told you, these Abraham Accords are incredibly significant and could lead to peace in the Middle East.

The Abraham Accords with Bahrain and the UAE mean there is a real chance for lasting peace in the region.  Israel is no longer isolated in the Middle East.  Bahrain and the UAE now join with Egypt and Jordan in establishing trade, travel, and security cooperation with Israel.  Additionally, for the first time, Saudi Arabia (which for the time being does not have diplomatic relations with Israel) is openly allowing Israel to use Saudi airspace for overflights when their planes fly to other countries.  Saudi Arabia has been cooperating for some time with Israel on matters of national security for both nations.

But sadly on the same day these historic peace agreements were signed in Washington, deadly rockets were fired on Israel from Gaza, and the known terrorist organization Hamas reportedly released a statement condemning the peace accords.

Hamas, a terrorist group based out of the Gaza Strip, condemned the signing in a Tuesday statement. 

“The normalization agreements between Bahrain, the UAE, and the Zionist entity are not worth the paper they were written on,” Hamas said in a statement. “Our people insists [sic] on continuing its struggle until it secures the return of all [of] its rights.”

That sounds like confirmation of its dangerous commitment to violence that cannot be tolerated by any nation. Nor should it be tolerated by the U.N. against a member state.

The ACLJ is dedicated to fighting antisemitism whenever and wherever it raises its ugly head and to defending the interests of our democratic ally, Israel.

We recently filed a critical brief at the International Criminal Court (ICC) through our European affiliate, the European Centre for Law and Justice (ECLJ), on behalf of Israel after the ICC Prosecutor set Israel in her crosshairs. She was demanding jurisdiction to investigate “war crimes” and “crimes against humanity” allegedly committed by Israelis against the Palestinians – in clear violation of international law. The ICC has no jurisdiction over Israel. If there is any group that should be investigated, it’s the PA.

Unfortunately, it’s hard to fight the anti-Israel actions of the Palestinian Authority when they are emboldened by the United Nations itself. We’ve told you about the U.N. establishing a $65 million anti-Israel slush fund for the Palestinian Authority (PA), a known sponsor of terror, to wage lawfare against the State of Israel.

And a U.N. director appearing at a rally for an antisemitic, anti-Israel organization is an offensive indication that there is still much work to be done to drive out the antisemitism within the U.N.
