Demanding the Release of Leah Sharibu at the UN

By Paul Archuleta1562955960266

As we have previously informed the United Nations, children in Nigeria experience threats of torture, kidnappings, and even death by radical Islamic groups on a regular basis. Through our European affiliate, the European Centre for Law and Justice (ECLJ), we filed another written submission on behalf of Leah Sharibu at the U.N. Human Rights Council.

Leah Sharibu, who was kidnapped from her boarding school by the terror group Boko Haram over a year ago, still remains captive because of her faith. As we informed the U.N.:

In February of 2018 Boko Haram insurgents raided the Government Girls Science Technical College in Dapchi, Yobe state and abducted 110 schoolgirls. Approximately four weeks later, Boko Haram released 104 of the schoolgirls while five of the girls died while being held captive, the only girl to remain captive is Leah Sharibu. Leah Sharibu remains a captive for one reason, her refusal to denounce her Christian faith.

It has now been over a year since Leah was kidnapped. The United Nations must work with the Nigerian government to secure Leah’s immediate release.  As we told them:

It is imperative that the U.N. take swift action and work with the government of Nigeria to ensure that Leah is brought home safely and to put an end to the atrocities being carried out in Nigeria by Boko Haram. No child should have to live under the fear of being abducted, enslaved, or killed.

Please stand with us as we continue to advocate for Leah’s safe release and return to her family.  Leah’s story is a story of bravery and courage. Her refusal to denounce her Christian faith despite facing cruel violence is an inspiration to all.

Please stand with us as we continue to advocate for Leah’s freedom.
