The Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners has targeted First Choice Pregnancy Service (FCPS), a Pregnancy Resource Center (PRC), and Dr. Hadiza Hamza, the medical director for the FCPS, in one of the latest attempts by a pro-abortion state to attack a pro-life PRC.

On April 16, 2024, FCPS received a letter from the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners alleging that Dr. Hamza’s action as the medical director for FCPS may have jeopardized her professional medical license as an internal medical physician. Some of the allegations included allowing “non-medically trained volunteers and nurses to perform internal ultrasounds, provide prescriptions for ‘abortion pill reversals,’ and supplying urine pregnancy tests to patients” without supervision. Another allegation involves practicing outside her scope as an internal medical physician by performing procedures of an OB/GYN.

However, FCPS and Dr. Hamza have denied these allegations and shared the truth. All FCPS personnel assisting Dr. Hamza have been trained in conducting pregnancy tests and are certified as lab assistants by the Nevada Divisions of Public and Behavioral Health, Bureau of Health Care Quality and Compliance, and Nevada Department of Health and Human Services. Further, the medical staff that offers ultrasounds comprises registered nurses and registered diagnostic medical sonographers who have complied with the applicable state law concerning training and licensing. Moreover, Dr. Hamza is also acting within the scope of her practice because she has extensive experience in providing the type of women’s health services provided at FCPS.

This attack on FCPS and Dr. Hamza is motivated by pro-life animus and has led to devastating effects on Dr. Hamza’s medical career. Dr. Hamza was terminated from St. Rose Hospital after working there for 23 years and has been unable to obtain medical licenses in other states – even though the investigation is ongoing and no wrongdoing has been determined. It is also likely that Dr. Adam Levy, an abortionist at an abortion clinic operating across the street from FCPS, is behind the investigation.

FCPS reached out to the ACLJ for some assistance in this matter, and the ACLJ filed a request for records with the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners to obtain emails or public records concerning Dr. Hamza or Dr. Levy to discover just what or who is behind the effort to target FCPS and Dr. Hamza.

This tactic of targeting the medical directors of PRCs in an attempt to intimidate and discredit the pro-life center and pro-life doctor is straight out of the pro-abortion playbook. Remember, Massachusetts is using this tactic – on a much grander scale – and we’re helping PRCs fight back there as well. Similarly in New Jersey, pro-abortion legislators pushed for radical legislation that would censor PRCs by arbitrarily determining what claims by the PRCs are false or misleading. PRCs in New York, California, and Pennsylvania have also faced political attacks.

The ACLJ is committed to advocating for PRCs and helping them stand up to the radical pro-abortion agenda and abuse of political power that is being used to try and shut them down.
