We recently told you about a new effort in the U.S. House of Representatives to force a vote on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. This legislation, sponsored by Rep. Ann Wagner (R-MO), would require that a baby born alive after an attempted abortion be provided the same level of care as any other baby born alive.

It is common-sense legislation that every Member of Congress—regardless of party affiliation—should readily support, but Speaker Nancy Pelosi has refused to schedule a vote on it. In fact, more than 25 unanimous consent requests to consider the legislation have been denied.

The Speaker’s refusal to schedule a vote has prompted Republican Whip Steve Scalise to file a discharge petition on the House Floor. This petition is a mechanism by which a vote on the House Floor can be achieved without the Speaker’s support. In order to achieve this goal, the petition must be signed by 218 Members of the House.

Fortunately, 198 Members have already signed, an enormous show of support for a petition that has just been filed. In fact, three Democrats have already signed: Dan Lipinski (IL), Ben McAdams (UT), and Collin Peterson (MN). All but two Republicans (Francis Rooney (FL) and John Rutherford (FL)) have signed, and it is widely anticipated that both of those Members will sign once they return to Washington, D.C. If that occurs, the petition will stand at 200 signatures, and will need 18 additional signatures to take effect.

Every Member of Congress who has not yet signed should be encouraged to support this common-sense legislation, but the following list of Members are among those most likely to join, and should be contacted and asked to sign the discharge petition for the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act:

Rep. Colin Allred (TX) – 202-225-2231
Rep. Cynthia Axne (IA) – 202-225-5476
Rep. Anthony Brindisi (NY) – 202-225-3665
Rep. Sean Casten (IL) – 202-225-4561
Rep. Angie Craig (MN) – 202-225-2271
Rep. Henry Cueller (TX) – 202-225-1640
Rep. Joe Cunningham (SC) – 202-225-3176
Rep. Sharice Davids (KS) – 202-225-2865
Rep. Antonio Delgado (NY) – 202-225-5614
Rep. Abby Finkenauer (IA) – 202-225-2911
Rep. Lizzie Fletcher (TX) – 202-225-2571
Rep. Jared Golden (ME) – 202-225-6306
Rep. Kendra Horn (OK) – 202-225-2132
Rep. Andy Kim (NJ) – 202-225-4765
Rep. Jim Langevin (RI) – 202-225-2735
Rep. Susie Lee (NV) – 202-225-3252
Rep. Elaine Luria (VA) – 202-225-4215
Rep. Tom Malinowski (NJ) – 202-225-5361
Rep. Lucy McBath (GA) – 202-225-4501
Rep. Chris Pappas (NH) – 202-225-5456
Rep. Max Rose (NY) – 202-225-3371
Rep. Harley Rouda (CA) – 202-225-2415
Rep. Elissa Slotkin (MI) – 202-225-4872
Rep. Abigail Spanberger (VA) – 202-225-2815
Rep. Haley Stevens (MI) – 202-225-8171
Rep. Xochiti Torres Small (NM) – 202-225-2365
Rep. Lauren Underwood (IL) – 202-225-2976
Rep. Jefferson Van Drew (NJ) – 202-225-6572

Again, if 218 Members sign the petition, the full U.S. House will consider a measure to protect the most vulnerable among us—newborn babies who survive an abortion.
