Is there any room left for pro-life voters in the Democrat Party?

On today’s Jay Sekulow Live we discussed, because of Senator Amy Klobuchar’s comments, the question of whether or not pro-life voters are welcome in the Democrat Party.

Senator Klobuchar said on ABC:

Well first, I say this; I’m strongly pro-choice. I have always been pro-choice. But I believe we are a big tent party, and there are pro-life Democrats, and they are part of our party. And I think we need to build a big tent. I think we need to bring people in, instead of shutting them out, and that also includes independents right here in New Hampshire, as well as moderate Republicans.

Senator Klobuchar is coming off a surprise third place finish in New Hampshire, which we predicted. It was Senator Sanders, Mayor Buttigieg, and then Senator Klobuchar. Given the climate of today’s Democrat Party, the statement that she made on ABC might have sunk her campaign. But it begs the question which I put to our listeners, is there any room in the Democrat Party for pro-life candidates or voters?

ACLJ Director of Government Affairs Thann Bennett made the following point:

First of all, Senator Klobuchar is clearly wrong on this issue overall. She opens that statement by saying that she’s strongly pro-choice. She’s right on the political question of whether or not pro-life Democrats should be allowed in the party. I’m going to make a prediction and it saddens me to say it, I think this is the kiss of political death for Senator Klobuchar inside the Democrat Party. I look at the United States House of Representatives where you really only have two members that can even be counted as some semblance of pro-life.

On February 8th,  when frontrunner for the Democrat presidential nomination, Senator Bernie Sanders was asked if there such a thing as a pro-life Democrat in his vision of the Democrat Party, his response made it clear that there is not:

I think being pro-choice is an absolutely essential part of being a Democrat. If you’re asking me, if you’re asking me – and I think, I may be wrong on this. I think in the Senate, probably 95% of the Democrats are Pro-Choice, you have a few who are not. In the House, maybe even a higher percentage. So that’s kind of what my view is. I think by this time in history, I think when we talk about what a Democrat is, I think being pro-choice is essentially – is an essential part of that.

I think that answers the question of what the prevailing thought is inside the Democrat Party.
