Radio Recap: Turmoil at Planned Parenthood

Major turmoil at Planned Parenthood, which just, after some major court losses, ousted its own president after just 8 months on the job.

Today on the show we discussed  the announcement that Planned Parenthood, reeling from a string of legal defeats, just fired its President Leana Wen.

The news came in a short, vague tweet:

Planned Parenthood Federation of America and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund announce Dr. Leana Wen’s departure from the organization. We thank Dr. Wen for her service and wish her the best in her next venture.

Wen tweeted that she had been notified that Planned Parenthood had made the decision to fire her during a “secret meeting.” Wen also released an official statement citing “philosophical differences” with board.

According to Wen’s official statement:

“I came to Planned Parenthood to lead a national healthcare organization that provides essential primary and preventive care to millions of underserved women and families, and to advocate for a broad range of policies that affect patients’ health.”

Wen wanted to shift the focus of the organization away from abortion. But Planned Parenthood was not interested in shifting away from abortion.  Instead it’s likely planning to redouble its abortion efforts, pushing extreme abortion legislation across the country and attacking the rights of pro-lifers.

This is clearly further evidence that Planned Parenthood is not about healthcare. It’s about politics. And it’s about abortion. Abortion is not healthcare. As our own Colonel Wes Smith said on the show, it’s very telling when someone like Wen is considered too moderate for Planned Parenthood’s extreme abortion agenda.

We’re in court today taking on the billion-dollar abortion business. Planned Parenthood filed massive lawsuits against the pro-life investigative journalists who exposed its ghoulish practice of selling aborted babies’ body parts. We’re defending a former board member of this pro-life group and fighting to expose the evidence against Planned Parenthood.
