Radio Recap – IN STUDIO: Former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer Talks Political Issues

Former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer joined us on the broadcast today.

On today’s Jay Sekulow Live, former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer joined us in-studio to talk about politics and Facebook and Twitter censorship. We were also joined by ACLJ Senior Advisor for National Security and Foreign Policy Ric Grenell who, having been censored by Twitter himself, gave his own unique perspective on social media censorship.

As we’re drawing very close to the election, it was a treat to have Sean in the studio to offer his unique perspective on what’s happening right now. We talked about the social media censorship of conservatives and the press yesterday on the broadcast.

Sean gave his take on the Twitter fiasco:

Think about this, they locked Kayleigh McEnany’s account for sharing a story from a publication that is the longest serving publication in America, founded by Alexander Hamilton. They blocked her account for sharing a story, not for editorializing it, not for giving her opinion – for literally sharing something. By the way, those same journalists for three years have been talking about how we can’t silence the press, we’ve got to stand up for the media except for when that story doesn’t benefit the Left.

The hypocrisy is unbelievable. You don’t even have to get into whether the story is true or not or whether more research needs to be done and more facts need to come out. No one should be banned from any kind of outlet that allows people this kind of freedom to post. The fact that people were stopped from posting an actual news source, not a fringe one either, is unbelievable. And as my dad said yesterday, it’s dangerous. But that’s what we’ve come to.

Sean continued:

How ironic that we’re having this conversation here, in a place where you guys fight for law, liberty, and all these things. And yet the reason Twitter can do this is because a section of the Federal Decency Act, Section 230, which treats media organizations different – it gives these social media platforms [the ability] to do this with immunity. So they can attack you. They can block you. They can shut you down, and you can’t do a thing. Whereas the Washington Post or the New York Times or someone else sort of came after you or said malicious or untrue things, you could sue them. You can’t do that with them. We need to repeal that.

The Chairman of the FCC did say today that they were going to do a review and implement a new interpretation.
