Radio Recap – President Trump Extends COVID-19 Guidelines to April 30

President Trump has extended the COVID-19 guidelines until the end of April.

On today’s Jay Sekulow Live we discussed the ramifications of extending the federal guidelines on social distancing and COVID-19 safety for another month, as well as further legislation that may be coming.

Yesterday President Trump explained at the White House COVID-19 Taskforce briefing:

We will be extending our guidelines to April 30th to slow the spread. On Tuesday, we will be finalizing these plans and providing a summary of our findings, supporting data, and strategy to the American people.

The President continued:

I want every citizen in our country to take heart and confidence in the fact that we have the best medical minds in the world tackling this disease. We have the best science, the best researchers, and the best talent anywhere working night and day to protect your family and loved ones and to overcome this pandemic.

As we saw yesterday in the Rose Garden, the President made it clear to the American people that the 15- day guideline which was about to expire, has been extended throughout the month of April. These are basically the same stay at home guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control  and the White House – the same social distancing guidelines limiting work, limiting restaurant openings, instigating hotel closures, and limiting group gatherings to less than 10  people.

The President was also asked about the idea of whether he will still be considering looking at certain areas for reopening and he said no. As of right now, for this next month, we can’t start picking and choosing where we can reopen and where we can’t reopen. We’re seeing pockets of places of where the virus will kind of explode and then overnight forty or fifty people will be diagnosed with it, even though that was a place or a state that didn’t have an issue with it previously.

My dad, Jay Sekulow, made the following point:

One of the interesting things is some locales, and this is just being smart, are saying that for people who may have a summer home someplace or go on a particular place for vacation, once you come into the county, you register and self-quarantine for 14  days. That includes not being able to go to the grocery store. You have to have a neighbor help you get the groceries. It sounds extreme but the idea there is to keep this number down and keep the spreading down.
