Fact Check: Did Sally Yates lie during her speech last night at the Democrat National Convention (DNC)?

On today’s Jay Sekulow Live, we discussed Sally Yates shocking and false statements on the second night of the DNC.

Former acting Attorney General Sally Yates appeared live during the DNC broadcast and blatantly lied to the entire country about her firing by President Trump. Yates used her opportunity to address the nation to deceitfully claim: “I was fired for refusing to defend President Trump’s shameful and unlawful Muslim travel ban.”

That’s an outright lie. Sorry Sally, but as you’re well aware, that’s not the real reason you were fired. You refused to enforce a duly enacted Executive order which was upheld as constitutional by the Supreme Court. You were fired for refusing to enforce the law. You didn’t do your job.

She also lied by calling it unlawful.

My dad, ACLJ Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow, put it plainly:

Here’s the thing. She said she was fired because she refused to enforce the unconstitutional order that the Supreme Court of the United States held was constitutional. Repeat: she said she was fired because of her refusal to enforce a duly authorized Executive order from the President of the United States. And she said that order was unconstitutional. She became the Supreme Court. She was wrong.

When the President’s order was challenged in court, the ACLJ took action, filing a critical amicus brief supporting the travel suspension. And the Supreme Court agreed with us. Chief Justice John Roberts stated in the Court’s opinion on the matter:

The Proclamation is expressly premised on legitimate purposes: preventing entry of nationals who cannot be adequately vetted and inducing other nations to improve their practices. The text says nothing about religion.

The real question is, by putting Yates out there on the DNC stage, is Joe Biden telling us that he would include her as part of his administration? Remember she was in the Oval Office meeting. Biden trusts her. She flat-out lied to the American people last night. That’s all there is to it.

Yates just challenged the Supreme Court on an order they ruled constitutional. And she could be the next Attorney General. She may have to face that Court one day. Imagine how that might go.

We’ve just posted an in-depth blog post regarding Sally Yates at ACLJ.org.

We also discussed something we’ve been aggressively working for the last few weeks, and that is our School Choice Initiative to help families who are struggling right now with pandemic school closures and virtual learning. A lot of parents are being hit hard, especially households where both parents work and parents of special needs children. Schools not reopening is creating a great deal of stress and difficulty.  Some don’t have the right equipment they need like laptops and Internet connectivity. We’ve been contacted by nearly 1,800 different families across the country who need help dealing with school districts.

We are working to resolve these matters as quickly as possible. We don’t want to go to court with school districts, but we are prepared to do so if we have to make sure all kids are given access to a quality education. And we’ve already secured victories for parents and kids.

The full broadcast includes much more discussion about the truth behind the firing of Sally Yates, as well as the ACJL’s initiative to achieve education justice for American families during the Coronavirus pandemic.
