School Choice

A

A

We live in an era featuring the shutdown of schools by authoritarians who remain unguided by science and an era engendering the politicization of virtually everything, including schools, by progressives and left-wing ideologues who despise the United States and the rule of law. Now more than ever, school choice is necessary.

Although the American people continue to demand adherence to the rule of law and accountable leadership, the COVID-19 pandemic has provided an opportunity for politicians to cravenly engage in duplicity, as they cave to left-wing labor union leaders and elites elsewhere. Accordingly, public officials in many school districts and states refuse to fully reopen public schools to in-person learning while simultaneously some states provide in-person education for illegal immigrants as they double down in refusing such opportunities for children of U.S. citizens.

Not content with simply preventing in-person learning for American citizens, the Board of Education in California has approved a curriculum that is arguably “the most radical, polemical, and ideologically loaded educational document ever offered up for public consideration in the free world.”

Imagine a public school curriculum that mandates the supplanting of Christianity and the study and veneration of pagan gods of the Aztec empire inclusive of chants or prayer to the god Tezcatlipoca—whom the Aztecs traditionally worshiped with human sacrifice and cannibalism. Consistent with the approach offered by California’s Board of Education, evidence surfaces indicating that a public charter school in Nevada promotes hostility to White people and Christians in a required class called “the Sociology of Change.” As a result, a biracial student was given a failing grade for refusing to confess his privilege.

Despite such outrageous behavior by public schools and boards of education,  welcome news has surfaced that is strongly consistent with the American Center for Law & Justice’s (ACLJ) approach to education. The Wall Street Journal reports that union-led school shutdowns have led to an increase in support for more educational options in the United States.

For instance, the West Virginia legislature has passed a bill creating the state’s first education savings accounts. This bill will eventually allow private- and home-schoolers to be eligible for $4,600 each for purposes of funding private-school tuition, tutors, and more. Meanwhile the Georgia House passed a bill that would expand eligibility for the state’s voucher program for special-education students. South Dakota, Kentucky, Indiana, Arizona, and perhaps Missouri are poised to follow suit.  All of these moves echo ACLJ Executive Director Jordan Sekulow’s leadership of our school choice initiative and his recent education post. Now more than ever the ACLJ remains vigilant because the fate of school children and the fate of our nation are at stake.

The ACLJ will continue to oppose the ruinous progressive agenda, led by left-wing elites, who seek to compromise our freedom, our liberty, and our heritage. As Jordan Sekulow points out, radical forces seek to trigger what is known as the “Great Reset” in order to challenge family, love of country, respect for human life, religious liberty, and the rule of law. Vigilance is especially necessary because the current Administration is following the path of the Obama-Biden Administration, which was one of the most lawless and most ethically challenged in the history of the republic. Similar forces, which are opposed to liberty, have been unleashed in public schools throughout America.

Join with us in advancing school choice and opposing the Left’s lawless agenda that seeks to use our children and their future as pawns to advance a pagan, godless agenda that could culminate in the destruction of the United States.
