Teachers unions demand that states restrict learning opportunities for students.

On today’s Jay Sekulow Live, we discussed the fact that teachers unions and far Left politicians are demanding that learning opportunities be restricted for students. They are trying to shut down virtual learning at charter schools.

As you know, we’ve launched a new initiative across the country representing parents for free. We’re able to say that because we’re a non-profit organization supported by your tax-deductible donations. So we can go out all around the country and help families deal with all of these school closings, with schools that are open one or two days a week, with special needs situations that require special attention, and with students who are in tough financial situations.

There’s an example out of Oregon. This is so absurd, almost to the point of evil. Oregon’s Governor Kate Brown issued an order closing schools, including all the charter schools as well. But in the order to close all in-person classes, they added that charter schools had to close all virtual learning. So students at Oregon charter schools are not only not going to be able to attend school in person, but now their virtual learning has been taken away.

We have a new blog up on this issue, but that is just one of the extreme issues that we are looking at getting legally involved in right away at the American Center for Law and Justice.

If you are facing significant hardship because of the school closings, whether it’s financial, you’re a signal parent, both parents are working and don’t have the money for child care, or can’t access the proper transportation since school buses are not running in many places and you think you need our help, please contact the ACLJ at ACLJ.org/HELP.

ACLJ attorneys are preparing individual demand letters that we’re going to be sending to school districts across the country on behalf of our clients, demanding that they provide accommodations, and aid.

ACLJ Director of Policy, Dr. Harry Hutchison made the following point:

In the United States a quality education should not be a privilege reserved for some, but a right guaranteed for all. States essentially have the obligation of ensuring that public schools are able to teach the basic literacy, calculating, and verbal skills necessary to enable children to eventually function productively as civic participants capable of voting or serving on juries.

At the ACLJ, we are prepared to first encourage local school boards to think out of the box in order to ensure that they meet that obligation.
