Today is a good day for the U.S. Constitution and the rule of law.
Moments ago, the U.S. Senate voted to confirm Judge Neil Gorsuch by a vote of 54-45 to fill the late Justice Antonin Scalia’s seat on the Supreme Court of the United States.
From the time when Justice Scalia passed away last year, the question of who would fill his seat has prompted debate on Capitol Hill, on the campaign trail, and throughout America.
We urged the Senate to follow tradition and give the American people a voice in selecting the next Supreme Court Justice. The American people spoke at the polls. The President kept his promise and nominated a rock solid conservative to the Supreme Court. The Senate did its job – following the Constitutional option – and confirmed the President’s pick – the people’s choice.
Now Judge Gorsuch will become Justice Gorsuch – the next Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.
Justice Gorsuch exemplifies everything a good judge should be, realizing it’s his job not to be a legislator, but to take the cases and controversies as he finds them and apply the Constitution and the law to them.
Today the Constitution won. The rule of law won. And the American people won.
As we have numerous cases before the Supreme Court on issues of life and liberty, we look forward to appearing before Justice Gorsuch.
For all of you that signed our petition (nearly a quarter of a million) and partnered with us as we worked on Capitol Hill to ensure Justice Gorsuch was given a vote in this environment of obstinate obstructionism and petty partisanship, this is a significant victory for you.
We will not stop fighting for you and the Constitution.
Take action with the ACLJ as we continue fighting for life and liberty. Make a tax-deductible gift today.
