President Biden has taken off on his first overseas trip as President of the United States. The intent behind this trip is to meet with the Group of Seven (G-7) and NATO allies to discuss ways to manage the pandemic, international alliances, and the increasing threats from China and Russia. Usually following these meetings, press conferences would be conducted to let the public know of the agreements reached and for the leaders to take questions from the media.

However, President Biden is not having a press conference after his first meeting with the U.K. but instead only issuing a statement, and that will most likely be an ongoing trend to come.

The hiding game has also been prevalent among the Biden Administration when it comes to the crisis on the border. As the President is traveling abroad, the conditions at our border are out of control. The numbers for May have just been released and they are increasingly worse than April. We told you how in April of 2021 we saw 178,000 encounters at our southern border. In May of 2021, that number has increased to 180,000 encounters. Last year in May of 2020, there were only 23,000 encounters. As we told you, this is a result of President Biden’s failed immigration policies.

This is not good timing for this Administration as the self-made border crisis can overshadow the importance of these international discussions.

Shortly after landing in Europe – the first stop on his foreign trip, President Biden spoke to U.S. troops warning them of the greatest threat in America:

This is not a joke. You know what the Joints Chiefs told us the greatest threat facing America was? Global warming.

ACLJ Senior Counsel for Global Affairs and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo gave insight into the importance of these meetings for President Biden and commented on his speech to the troops:

These are very important. These countries are taking the measure of a new President. Many of these leaders would actually know President Biden from his time in the Senate. Now, they are getting to see him as America’s Commander in Chief and the individual that can deliver American greatness to support them. They are trying to figure out precisely what he is thinking. I think his speech, meeting with the military yesterday, was a signal to these leaders. He said at that gathering that the risk from climate change is the greatest threat that faces the United States of America. So, everyone in Europe – I promise you heard that and will take that to heart. Sadly, I think they are prepared to let the American economy suffer and the American worker suffer to work to reduce carbon. They aren’t about to do it to themselves. They aren’t going to destroy their economies on the altar of the Green New Deal. But I think they heard that loud and clear. I hope that what they see from President Biden as he moves through his days of business is the resolved deterrence model that the Trump Administration put in place. But sadly, I fear they will see America's weakness instead of America first, and they are going to put the Green New Deal first. And that makes each one of us a little less safe.

President Biden’s foreign trip continues with meetings with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Thursday, then over the weekend joining G-7 leaders for the summit. Next, he will meet with Queen Elizabeth II before traveling to Belgium for the NATO Summit. Last, he will finish the trip in Geneva for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. In the first five months of this Administration, foreign policy has not been a strong point. Our hope is that the Biden Administration leads from a position of strength not weakness and puts our allies as a top priority during these upcoming meetings. One of the ways you can show harmony with your allies is by making public appearances with them. Between this Administration’s foreign policy decisions and minimal appearances, the appearance of solidarity is not likely with our allies.
